In addition to providing a full range of comprehensive home care services to patients discharged from the hospital, or those enrolled in managed care programs, Able operates a Special Needs CHHA that serves developmentally delayed individuals who reside in the five boroughs of New York City, Nassau and Suffolk counties.
Developmental disabilities are a variety of conditions, such as mental retardation, autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and other neurological or physical impairments that become apparent during childhood. These disabilities can hamper an individual’s intellectual growth and one’s ability to participate in the mainstream of society. The majority of these individuals require safety and supervision in order to remain risk free in their home environment. In earlier years the prognosis most physicians gave to parents of developmentally disabled children was very discouraging. Institutionalization was usually recommended. As families elected to keep their children at home, resources slowly became available to meet their needs. Able Health Care Service is Certified by the New York State Department of Health and works in cooperation with the Office of People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD).
Services provided by our CHHA may be reimbursed by Medicare, Medicaid, Private Payment, Managed Long Term Care, or other types of health insurers. Services provided for our Special Needs clients may be covered through Medicaid’s Waiver program at no cost to the family.
